Shellie Ellis, MA, PhD
Shellie Ellis, M.A., Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. Ellis has a broad background in multidisciplinary health services research, with specific training and expertise in qualitative research methods, secondary analysis of large databases, and measuring and improving the quality of cancer care. She has a Master’s degree in Anthropology from Wake Forest University and doctoral degree in Health Policy and Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Ellis’ peer-reviewed publications advance understanding of the impact and implementation of health policies, identify opportunities to improve quality of care through implementation research, and assess health outcomes. Her current research focuses on physician decision making in two areas: 1) successfully implementing evidence-based, prostate cancer treatment decision aids in urology practice; and 2) understanding how non-clinical factors influence treatment decisions, particularly in contexts in which evidence-based guidelines encourage physicians to de-implement care that has been traditionally offered. Her long-term career goal is to improve the quality of cancer care delivery by bridging innovative decision science and cancer clinical care through implementation science.
